How We Choose Products
ReptiNest is built to make shopping for reptile care products simpler. Instead of recommending products solely based on popularity or commission, we evaluate whether they make sense for the species and setup they are being recommended for.
Species Suitability
We first consider whether the product is appropriate for the specific reptile species, life stage and enclosure type.
Husbandry & Safety
We prioritize products that support appropriate temperature gradients, UVB, humidity, enclosure space, substrate and other husbandry requirements.
Product Quality
We consider materials, reliability, manufacturer specifications, useful features and long-term practicality.
Value
The cheapest product is not automatically the Best Value. We look for products that provide strong performance and reliability for the price.
Owner Feedback
When useful, we consider patterns in customer feedback and common issues reported by reptile keepers.
Product Availability
We prefer products that visitors can realistically purchase from reputable retailers.
Affiliate Relationships
ReptiNest may earn commissions when visitors purchase products through certain links across multiple retailers and brands. This does not increase the price paid by the customer. Affiliate commission is not the sole reason a product is recommended.
Recommendation badges
What the badges mean
Each recommended product carries a badge that summarizes why it earned its place.
Best Overall
The strongest balance of suitability, quality, reliability and value.
Best Value
A lower-cost option that still meets our recommendation standards.
Premium Pick
A higher-end option offering additional quality, features or performance.
Ongoing review
Care information can change as husbandry knowledge evolves. ReptiNest periodically reviews recommendations and updates pages when better information or products become available.
Retailer independence
We compare across stores, not just one
ReptiNest is not exclusive to a single retailer. When possible, we compare products and purchasing options across multiple reputable stores rather than recommending a retailer simply because it offers an affiliate commission. We do not claim to be completely unbiased or financially independent — affiliate commissions may be earned — so we focus on transparency and species-appropriate recommendations instead.
